Actors Reading Script

ACTING 1 & 2

Begin with the fundamentals of acting by establishing a working vocabulary and acquiring the basic skills of the acting process. Through exercises, compositions and improvisations the student actor explores the imagination as a primary resource and develops a basic approach to text through action and character development. As students progress to Acting 2 they will learn to interpret and present the the words of others on stage. This includes a script-writing and stage combat component. Students can learn the skills to prepare for college theater and community theater auditions. These courses may be taken more than once.

Architecture Model

THEATER DESIGN

Learn how to perceive, visualize and realize practical theater designs, including but not limited to sets, costumes and props. Learn the principles of design and their applications in the creative and production processes. Students will become acquainted with the practical basics of design as a profession and learn to appreciate each as a from of artistic expression and visual interpretation of literary texts in the context of modern theater. Prepare for college and community theater experiences. This course may be taken more than once.

Colored Theatre Lights

THEATER PRODUCTION 1 

Develop a basic understanding of the aesthetics and practical application of all phases of technical production (scenic design, scenery construction and painting, property construction and design, make-up, costuming, lighting, sound engineering, backstage organization). Participating in this class will help students prepare for college and community theater experiences. This course may be taken more than once.

THEATER MANAGEMENT 

Learn the technical knowledge necessary to operate a theatre - sound and lighting systems, operating the stage "fly system", executing equipment set-ups and take-downs. Students will learn the necessary skills to coordinate stage use with school, community and professional organizations. Students are expected to work outside scheduled classes, providing technical support for various concerts and shows presented at the high school, as well as support for classes and assemblies using the auditorium. This course may be taken more than once with the instructor's permission. Prerequisite: Successful completion of two previous Theatre courses and teacher approval.

UNIFIED THEATER

Unified Theater's mission is to foster meaningful inclusion an develop student leaders through the arts. Students with and without disabilities, of all backgrounds, come together as equals to put on a production entirely organized, written and directed by the students themselves. Students will learn a basic knowledge of acting, technical production, play writing, directing and producing a show, culminating in a performance. This course may be taken more than once.
